What is a Puppy Cut?

Technically, a Puppy Cut refers to a specific breed trim for Poodles. However, we understand that this isn’t what most pet parents mean when they request a "Puppy Cut"!

You might be surprised to learn that there’s no standard definition of a Puppy Cut for other dog breeds, but our experience in grooming has given us a good understanding of what people typically expect.

Generally, a Puppy Cut refers to a floofy puppy’s first haircut, where much of the soft puppy fluff is trimmed down, leaving about 1–2 inches of fur on the legs and/or body. The tail and ears are lightly trimmed, and the face is styled in a soft, teddy-bear-like look. This cut creates a plush, gentle appearance without harsh lines.

If this description doesn’t match what you have in mind, please let us know or provide reference photos to ensure we meet your expectations.

However, if your puppy’s coat is matted, it will not be eligible for a Puppy Cut, as dematting is too intense for young dogs. In such cases, a shave (see Full Clip) may be necessary to prioritise their comfort and wellbeing.

To book a Puppy Cut, chose the "Style Groom" Option in our booking system and then your Pup's weight category. Please make a note saying that it will be their first full body cut. Note also that we recommend a minimum of 2 x Bath & Tidies to accustom your Pup to the process before doing this full service.
